Rick Recht Bio.

Rick Recht is the top-touring musician in Jewish music playing over 150 concerts a year in the United States and abroad.  Recht is widely recognized for his appeal to youth and family audiences not only as an exceptional musician, singer/songwriter, and entertainer, but also as a role model for involvement in Jewish life.  He has become an icon for Jewish youth in the United States, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity among the masses.  Recht is the national music spokesman for The PJ Library and the Executive Director of Songleader Boot Camp, a national leadership development immersion program held annually in St. Louis, MO.  Recht is also the founder and Executive Director of Jewish Rock Radio, (501c3), the first high-caliber, 24/7, Jewish rock internet radio station.  Jewish Rock Radio broadcasts contemporary Jewish rock music, interviews with Jewish celebrities, and interviews featuring youth from communities around the world speaking about exciting experiences they have had engaging in Jewish life.  Jewish Rock Radio can be found at www.jewishrockradio.com and is also available through free apps for iPhone and Android mobile devices.

Recht’s electrifying live performances fueled by Dennis Stringfield on drums and Shlomo Ovadya on bass guitar have captured the hearts of a generation of fans discovering the inspiration of contemporary Jewish music.  Recht is known for regularly featuring local musicians, choirs, and vocal soloists on stage with the band during his concerts and religious services.  Check out Rick Recht tour dates: www.rickrecht.com/tour.  Recht has launched unprecedented tours playing at Jewish day and overnight camps from coast to coast including Ramah, URJ, BBYO, JCC and private camps garnering a feverish following among the national Jewish youth movements unseen in previous years. “The stage is definitely our home,” says Recht. “The energy and voices of the audiences, whether they’re little kids, teens or adults, are indescribable. That’s the magic of Jewish music - the interaction, the singing, the dancing, and the powerful community connection. For me, it’s a dream come true to create and share in these powerful experiences.”  Highlights over the last several years include performances at the NFTY National Convention, BBYO International Convention, URJ Biennial, USY International Convention, CAJE, Hillel Leaders Assembly, NAA Conference, BBYO International Staff Conference, CCAR Conference (Central Conference of American Rabbis), ACC Conference (American Conference of Cantors), URJ National Preschool Director’s Conference, and PJ Library children’s concerts across the country. Recht is a regular concert headliner at major national Jewish festivals in cities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Kansas City.  Recht is also often featured at national leadership and education conferences as a keynote speaker and expert on media, technology, and youth engagement.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Recht developed a strong Jewish identity attending Traditional Congregation, a conservative synagogue. In high school, Recht joined NFTY, where he was deeply influenced by Jewish music. After graduating USC (Los Angeles, CA) and Music Institute (Hollywood, CA), Recht hit the road touring nationwide from LA to New York playing at clubs, colleges, and amphitheaters. Recht has shared the stage with national acts such as the Guess Who, Chris Rock, America, Supertramp, Three Dog Night, the Samples, Vertical Horizon, Government Mule (Allman Brothers), and many more. After releasing two critically acclaimed secular albums, Good Thing and Reality, Recht returned to his Jewish roots with his debut Jewish album, Tov, in the summer of 1999.  His shift to Jewish music marks the birth of a unique blend of pop, radio-friendly music with Hebrew, Jewish text, and social responsibility.  Recht is the Artist-in-Residence at United Hebrew Congregation in St. Louis, Missouri and enjoys spending time with his wife, Elisa, 10-year-old son, Kobi, and 7-year-old son, Tal.

Hello - For the last 3 years, I have had the great privilege of traveling all across the United States and meeting and performing for and with great Jewish communities.    I feel I have the best job in the world to experience children and teens connecting through music, inspired and proud of their faith, and families connect across generations to the universal and ageless power of music.   I very much see my role as much more than entertainer.  I work to educate, inspire and unite and I take that role to heart.   I so look forward to meeting more of you in Jewish communities from coast to coast in the coming years and to bringing more contemporary Jewish music to light for you and your families.

See ya soon - Sheldon
